It is gritty, dark and thoroughly entertaining and I heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a great story driven narrative. Furthermore the replayability is more than sufficient to make you want to try out different options on different playthroughs even once you know the end game and have completed the game first time around. This is the best game of its type I've played and I'd put it ahead of other titans of the genre like Hard Rain, LA Noire, Life Is Strange, etc. In short, the world feels alive and suspension of disbelief is consistent and absolute. This is not a GTA type world where passers by exist only to make it appear fleshed out, each character here exists as a character with even those you don't interact with having their own lives and getting on with things in their own way independently of you.
THE WOLF AMONG US GAME CHARACTER SKIN
Choices feel like they genuinely matter (and they do too, this isn't just a skin deep feeling).Įach character feels not just believable but that they belong in the environment and have a unique place in the world that your actions influence. You control the protagonist and Telltale have managed to get the balance exactly right between giving them a personality whilst letting you imprint your own onto what you want the character to do. The mention of places and people not seen but feared really sets the ambience and tempo and the story telling is the best I've seen from a Telltale series, even better than The Walking Dead. The setting grabs you and pulls you in far more than I'd ever have dreamt possible from the subject matter. Rough streets, mood lighting, an undercurrent of ever-present potential violence, characters prepared to do desperate things to keep their heads above water, etc. Right from the start though it sets up the cynicism and pathos that is the hallmark of exceptionally high quality noir. I wasn't expecting to finish it or care about it too much. I went into it not quite knowing what to expect but prepared to give it a couple of hours to see if I enjoyed it or not. I just completed The Wolf Among Us and I have to say it was really rather good, much more so than I was expecting despite the consistently positive reviews it gets.
